What Is an HLR Check? Mobile Number Validation Explained

An HLR check (Home Location Register lookup) asks the mobile networks whether a phone number is live and connected — without calling or texting it. It's the fastest way to strip dead numbers out of a list.

How it works

Every mobile network keeps a register of its subscribers. An HLR lookup queries it and returns whether the number is live, which network it's on and whether it has moved network.

Why it saves money

  • Agents stop wasting time on dead numbers.
  • You stop paying to send texts that never arrive.
  • Your dialler connect rate goes up.

Questions

Does an HLR check call the number?

No. It queries the network register; the phone doesn't ring.
